I have to admit, I had absolutely no desire to watch the upcoming Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero fight. That was until I saw the video below. Apparently Guerrero’s father, Reuben Guerrero, decided that it would be a good idea to repeatedly call Mayweather a woman beater.

To be fair, Mayweather did serve time for domestic abuse. But as far as I know that is is only time he has done such a thing. I don’t recall a string of accusations and arrests. After all, he’s not Brandon Marshall.

To his credit, Mayweather just sat there and didn’t respond. I’m assuming he is going to respond in the ring.

This awesome rant by the elder Guerrero almost makes me want to watch this fight. Almost.

Jordan-Crawford-x-Carmelo-AnthonyCeltics player Jordan Crawford found himself in the middle of a controversy when he allegedly told Carmelo Anthony, “That motherfucker fucked your wife,” and the end of last night’s playoff game. I say “allegedly” only because to video of him mouthing off to Anthony after the Celtics’ 92-86 victory leaves a little ambiguity. Not much, but a little.

Anthony’s wife, La La Anthony, has chimed in on Instagram, saying, “Try again. You on the bench for a reason.” Presumably, this was directed towards Crawford. Deadspin.com has a nice report you should check out, with the video.

To his credit, Crawford has stuck to his story. He even tweeted out this earlier today:

See? He would never do something like that. Even though he was caught on camera doing just that.

It remains to be seen if this verbal scrum will be a distraction to Anthony and the Knicks and negatively impact their game or if it will energize them and help them close out Boston in Game 6. Given Carmelo Anthony’s history, I’d it can go either way.

DolphinsTebowESPN poster boy and career backup QB, Tim Tebow, is currently out of work but that may be coming to an end according to cbssports.com.

They are reporting that super-agent and all around sleazy dude Drew Rosenhaus is saying that the Miami Dolphins may have some interest is signing Tebow.

This makes so little sense, football or otherwise, that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross just might pull the trigger on this transaction. He seems to be in love with Tebow all most as much as Skip Bayless. This is the guy who held a Tim Tebow appreciation day at Sun Life stadium when Tebow and the Denver Broncos came to town two seasons ago.

Dolphins GM, Jeff Ireland, has made such great moves for the Dolphins in the offseason and the NFL Draft that it only makes sense that the team owner will swoop in and destroy the whole thing in one chemistry-busting acquisition.

Hopefully this is just a sad, sad rumor.

wbcNBABy now the whole world knows that NBA player, Jason Collins, has come out of the closet. His announcement has been met with mostly positive comments. It has appeared that America has turned a very important corner in tolerance and acceptance. Of course, you knew it couldn’t last long.

Enter the Westboro Baptist Church. You know them, they’re the “God Hates Fags” people. And they really do not like Jason Collins or the NBA, for that matter.

They have decided that since the NBA is now rampant with homosexuals the are going to protest the playoff games of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston Rockets and The Chicago Bulls vs. New Jersey Nets. Here is their tweet announcing a new sign made especially for the NBA:

I’m not sure why they have to pick on poor Kevin Durant but I guess they really don’t need a reason. It should be pointed out that this “church” is basically made up of the family of the Reverend Fred Phelps (no relation to Michael Phelps). So it is kind of hard to take them seriously. But they do seem to get a hell of a lot of media coverage. I guess I’m guilty of enabling them, too.

They may hate Jason Collins, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and David Stern but there is one sports personality they like; Chris Broussard:

This is probably not the endorsement that Broussard wanted but I guess you have to take what you can get.

Oklahoma City and Chicago better get ready for an onslaught of literally 8-10 protesters descending on the arenas.

It didn’t take too long for someone at the Worldwide Leader to make a fool out of himself regarding the Jason Collins announcement. Chris Broussard came in right on cue to prove once again that he is an idiot.

This is from my good friends over at Deadspin.

Well, after ESPN had a fairly terrible morningcovering the Jason Collins story, it looked like the network was making progress this afternoon: Smart news hour Outside The Lines would expand to a full hour to discuss the NBA player’s announcement. Fantastic.

Or maybe not. OTL booked Chris Broussard to have a discussion with openly gay correspondent LZ Granderson, and it rapidly devolved into a talk about whether or not gay sex is sinful. Huh? (Broussard’s let his thoughts on this matter be known before).

By now we all have heard about Jason Collins’ announcement that he is gay. He’s the first active player in any American professional sport to come out of the closet.

Of course, everyone on Twitter has an opinion. Here are some of the tweets that are out there:

But enough of the support and understanding, I know you really want to read the hate. Here you are:

Sometimes I hate humanity.

jasoncollinsNBA player, Jason Collins, has come out as the first openly gay player in any of the big four professional American sports.

When I first heard the news of Collins coming out my first reaction wasn’t, “This is a great day for tolerance in sport and America,” nor was it, “Oh my god, this is going to bring down American and decent society as we know it.” My first reaction was, “Who the hell is Jason Collins?”

If you had the same reaction here is Jason Collins. He has played for the New Jersey Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics and most recently, the Washington Wizards. This may be the reason that most people have never hear of him.

He is 34-years old and is currently a free agent. It is being reported that he is an “active NBA player” but in reality he has no team to play for. Thirty-four is pretty old by NBA standards and being a free agent probably makes it easier for Collins to come out. To me it seems like Collins is announcing this because he is about to retire.

Even though he says he wants to continue playing his age makes it very unlikely that any team will pick him up. Plus there will probably be some outcry from religious nuts towards any team that even considers signing Collins. There will probably be some very ignorant comments coming from players as well.

I think what Jason Collins has done is a great thing. I have always said that there are gay players in every professional sport. They have just been too afraid to come out for fear of reprisals and a fear that they may be committing career suicide.

It’s tough being the first person to do anything and Jason Collins has paved the way for other gay athletes.  Hopefully, the reaction to Collins’ announcement will be positive. I’m sure there will be some negative, hurtful comments coming from the usual suspects but overall I think America is ready for this.

I had no idea who Jason Collins was before today but I am positive that I will remember who he is for the rest of my life. Good luck, Jason, and thank you.
